Manage a water catchment (via a game)!
Friday 15 August 2008
eWater CRC has developed part of its catchment management software into a challenging online game.
The game, ‘Catchment Detox’ will go live during National Science Week, 16-24 August, at http://catchmentdetox.net.au/ on the ABC’s science website.
Catchment Detox is an online game where you're in charge of a whole water-catchment. You get to decide what activities you undertake (cropping? restoration?) with the aim of fixing environmental problems and providing food and wealth for the population … and you can get an idea of just how difficult it is to manage a river catchment!
The model behind the game was developed by Nick Marsh, Sylvain Arene and Stuart Minchin in a collaboration between the CSIRO Division of Land and Water and the eWater Cooperative Research Centre.
Our software partner was the Moon Communications Group.
Catchment Detox was based upon an original idea by Natural Resource Management advisor Tim Stubbs and consultant Lucy Broad.
