eWater Chairman's Award 2008 to Robert Argent

Tuesday 26 February 2008

Dr Robert Argent, a key figure in eWater CRC, was awarded the inaugural eWater CRC Chairman’s Award at the annual staff conference last week.

Making the presentation during the conference dinner, Don Blackmore AM, Chairman of eWater, thanked Robert for his important work and leadership in the CRC since 2005. ‘I’m very pleased indeed to give you this award in recognition of your outstanding work contributing to the development of the Catchment Modelling Toolkit, the E2 catchment model, and the eWater conceptual architecture’, said Don Blackmore, handing over a framed certificate and a cheque. Robert Argent has been a leading figure in eWater CRC, as a member of the initial Executive team and more recently heading the ‘conceptual architecture’ team. That team has figured out an intricate and highly logical system linking eWater’s detailed research, product development, and target water-management issues. The Catchment Modelling Toolkit and the E2 catchment model both began life as outputs of an eWater forerunner, the CRC for Catchment Hydrology, with considerable input from Robert. E2 is currently being expanded into an eWater model for managing water movement across and through river basins and valleys. The Toolkit is a web-delivery site supplying tools for water management. Both the Toolkit and E2 are now supported by eWater CRC. eWater’s staff, Executive and Board wish Robert well as he moves from his current work with The University of Melbourne and eWater CRC, to head the development of AWRIS* in the Bureau of Meteorology’s new water division, at the end of February. *AWRIS = Australian Water Resources Information System
